Summary: Bluetooth headphones not just for your iPod
Comment: I'm not sure where the description on the Amazon page came from, but these seem to be the XMM607 Bluetooth headphones from Ixos, not some glossy photo paper from TDK. The product codes (XMM607) match so feel free to do a websearch if you're unsure.

The item consist of two pieces - the headphones themselves and a Bluetooth adaptor, which plugs into any standard 3.5mm headphone jack, whether that be on an mp3 player, laptop, PSP or any piece of suitably-equipped hi-fi equipment. Once the headphones and adaptor have been paired (a simple procedure taking only a few seconds), the sound can be sent to the headphones from any one of these gadgets. This means that they can be used for much more than just listening to music on your mp3 player and really adds to their functionality. I've also tried using them with my Panasonic mobile phone but have found that whilst the phone can be paired with them it can't connect to them, although the manual says that they're A2DP compliant so people with newer mobiles might have more luck.

The headphones certainly look the part, helped no doubt by their iPod-influenced styling, and they certainly feel well-made. I perhaps would have liked them to be less rounded, although this is obviously a matter of taste. Both the headphones and Bluetooth adaptor contain a rechargeable battery and are charged from a single mains adaptor, taking approximately 3 hours to fill. I've never used them from full to empty in any one sitting so I can't comment on the usage times.

The Bluetooth adaptor hangs from a short length of cable, presumably to allow for those situations where the headphone jack is recessed into the (say) mp3 player. In reality I've found this to be something of a pain as the adaptor hangs down and constantly hits against my iPod when I'm walking or cycling. Occasionally it'll take a hard knock and, even though it's well-made and feels sturdy, the joint where the cable meets the adaptor feels less strong and I worry about the cable breaking or being pulled from the adaptor.

Sound-wise the headphones are pretty good in the mid and high ranges but poor in the lower range, with very little bass coming through. I've also found that there is also a constant low hiss in the background, perhaps from the wireless connection. Also, they don't so much cover the ears as sit on them, and I find that this allows a little too much sound from outside to infiltrate; I have to turn up the volume on my iPod to compensate and, as any good ear doctor will tell you, too much volume isn't always a good thing. It also means that they feel less like 'proper' headphones and more like the sort of thing you'd use with your mobile while driving.

My main issue with the headphones though is that they simply aren't at all comfortable to wear. Two plastic bands hook over your ears and are the only things keeping them from falling down. Not only are they something of a pain to put on, I also find that the plastic is quite sharp at the edges and digs into my ears more than I'd like; I can't wear them for anything other than fairly short periods without my ears beginning to hurt. There also isn't a lot of padding on the earpieces themselves and this really doesn't help wth the comfort.

I don't use these headphones much as they're just too awkward to wear for any period of time. I also find the way that they sit on your ears rather than over them not only to be uncomfortable but also not really conducive to a good listening experience. Sound quality may be pretty good, but on the whole I really couldn't recommend them as for this sort of money I'd want something a bit better.
