Summary: Take care!
Comment: Typical Epson quality and ease of use. The problem is that the 4180 scanner began to give problems after one week in my possession before finally dying after three weeks. I now notice that this scanner is difficult to obtain anywhere. Is this an indication that Epson recognise that the 4180 has a major, built in, problem?

Summary: Beware if you want to scan 35mm negatives
Comment: Having read the reviews on the Amazon UK site and having done some checks on the web i decided to purchase this. However when i began putting some newly developed negs through it i was disappointed. The main issue is that the mechanism for holding the 35mm negs does not adequately retain the film. My 'flat' negs became warped at each end causing the resulting images of frames 1 and 4 to be distorted. (These are each end of a 4 neg strip). It may even be due to the heat from the lamp which does get quite warm during the typical 20min scan.I was not overwhelmed by the quality although i did not use the highest setting. Having decided to return the kit, i checked the Amazon US site and found much the same comments as i include above. So check out the comments on the sister site, for other modes of scanning this might be ok but beware........

Summary: Brilliant scanner
Comment: Having now owned the scanner for two months, I have been able to put it through its paces. Using the enclosed guide, set up was simple and quick. The enclosed software offers many options and it easily links with your favourite programs, such as Paint Shop Pro. Photographs, negatives and slides are handled confidently enabling large prints to be made with ease. Of the scanners I have owned, this is simply the best and it does live up to all that Epson claim for it. Now, I would not be without it. If you are looking for an excellent scanner, then this is the one to buy to avoid disappointment.

Summary: Amazing
Comment: Ordered 2 days ago, arrived today - free postage!!Setting up a doddle - just follow instructions. FREE Photoshop Elements!!! Great bonus.
Been using it for several hours and it really is straightforward. I have have several scanners in the past, but this Epson 4180 is head and shoulders above everything I have seen and used before. Quality of scans is simply amazing. I have been scanning some old 35mm slides and the results are stunning. I have also scanned some very old B + W photos and the outcome was identical to the original - in fact, once enhanced in photoshop elements, better than the original.
A real winner - well worth the 5 stars - I only wish I could give it a few more stars.
