Customer Rating: Summary: Drum and Cartridge charges Comment: Machine works faultlessly. I run it with both a PC and a Mac and it doesn't get confused. OK so it costs an arm and a leg to replace the cartridge (about £40, but shop around) but... wait for it ... it does around 1500 prints - and yes, the Drum will cost practically as much as a new printer - I've had mine for just about 2 years. I've maybe had five possibly six new cartridges in that time. Now it needs a new drum as well. I can't complain - it's done far more copies than the drum was ever designed for. Cost of new cartridge PLUS new drum - around £90. Cost of new machine £50 - so guess what ... I've ordered a new HL 2030 Simple solution.
Customer Rating: Summary: Roller marks on paper Comment: This was fine for a while and the toner cartridge lasted for ages. Am on my 2nd cartridge replacement now (bought online for c.£37 so not particularly cheap). Printer is showing its age now - leaves spots along one edge despite cleaning etc and also the rollers furrow the paper. Overall, the quality is not now acceptable for work / printing letters. Poor marks for durability. Wouldn't buy another.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good at first........... Comment: I bought one for home, it was great so after about 11 months I bought another for work. That was great too.
Then the first one stopped feeding paper properly. Sometimes it was fine but when it was bad it was horrible - incredibly difficult to remove jammed paper. It would feed a piece of paper halfway through then just stop. Eventually it told me it needed toner; put in a new cartridge; printed about 15 pages then toner light came on again. Tried it with toner from second machine - toner light on permanently.
Now the second machine has gone the same way(again, just out of warranty) and I dont think I'm going to risk buying another toner cartridge just to find out the machine is broken.
Home machine is now HP LJ1018 and is doing fine. Great print options. Envelope feed and (manual)duplex very straight forward.
But we have bought a 3year warranty...
Customer Rating: Summary: Good Basic Printer - Black & White Prints Comment: The Brother HL 2030 is a good basic printer which will produce good quality text prints.
If your after a basic, low running cost printer this is the printer for you. I know it is the cheapest laser printer around but please hear me out.
I am a Graphic Designer so naturally I produce a lot of prints, I use another printer called the Epson R1800 which is amazing! The cartridge bay holds 7 colour cartridges i.e. matte black, photo black, cyan, yellow, red, magenta, blue and can hold a gloss optimiser cartridge, it can produce prints upto A3. The print quality is super.
As a freelance Designer, I send a lot of letters and invoices, so I decided to buy the cheapest laser printer available. The HL 2030 is only good for one simple thing, printing black text - infact the quality of the text produced from the HL 2030 is very good- not brilliant, just very good. However, if you want to print images, then the HL 2030 is rubbish! It really is. (Remember, its only a £70 printer so give it some credit)
This is how I suggest you use the HL 2030. Use the HL 2030 for black text only. The cartridge costs £40 but this can produce around 1500 prints, if you think about it then you realise it is excellent value for money! If I use the R1800 (using black only) It would run out after 150 prints!
Customer Rating: Summary: BEWARE: replacing cartridge + drum costs more than the whole printer!! Comment: I SO wish I hadn't bought this printer!! I am now looking for a more durable alternative as buying extortionately priced consumables for this one just doesn't make sense. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
