Imation Disc Stakka - CD/DVD Management Tool User Reviews:

Customer Rating: Summary: Look after your stakka installation disk!!!! Comment: Mine's still working after a few years, with the occasional hiccup that's once required that I take a screwdriver and brute-force it open.
What I find worst about the Stakka is the software support.
There is nowhere to download the software/drivers that ships with the device.
And what is even worse is that if you do upgrade to the pro version of the software, it is tied to the machine you upgraded. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot - this piece of hardware (with inevitable software) is supposed to make our lives easier.
Taken from the Opditracker website:
"Conditions of Purchase
The OpdiTracker Standard software is provided as physical media only. The OpdiTracker Pro upgrade is provided via electronic delivery only.
Software sold via electronic delivery is subject to different guidelines than that sold as physical media. Please see our refund and returns policy for full details.
All sales are processed in Australian dollars. The following credit cards are accepted for payment:
Visa
Mastercard
Bankcard
Note: The OpdiTracker Pro upgrade is tied to the computer from which you obtain the Upgrade ID code. This upgrade will not run on any other computer."
Doomed.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic Concept - poorly executed Comment: I have 5 Disc Stakka's and have found many of the same problems as others who have posted here: unreliability, unit failure and frequent re-indexing necessary.
That said, I have persevered with it simply because despite all these issues, it remains a great tool. I index the discs from imdb.com (manually - an auto-detect would be fabulous). Whilst this can take a while, I can then use it to search for a movie based on actor, director, genre etc and get to it in seconds.
One feature that is frustrating is that any records you create cannot be exported. I want to share my library with family and friends, but this is not possible with the current software.
However when all is said and done, I use it and much, much prefer this solution to disc racks that consume half my home! I live in the hope that one day (soon hopefully) that Imation will provide the software and build quality that this fantastic idea deserves.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very unreliable product Comment: Like a lot of the other reviewers here, I found the Stakka to be really great at first and purchased 3 as I have so many CDROMs to manage. But after a while the units became unreliable - they stopped ejecting discs, wouldn't rotate, wouldn't take new discs even when empty etc. I think that they are constructed from cheap materials so they will probably work until the warranty has run out at which point you will have to take a screw driver to the unit to retrieve your valuable discs and the Stakka will end up in the bin. Pity Imation didn't do a better job with the product as it is a really neat idea.
Customer Rating: Summary: there is a reason why its cheap! Comment: ...it's rubbish. Poorly constructed, flimsy, have used it twice and twice I have had to get a screwdriver out and open it up to retrieve my disks.
Make sure its what you think it is, my colleague ordered it thinking that once connected we would have network access to all our disks without having to remove them. This is not the case, this does not, and cannot read the data on the disc, all it is is a storage unit, when you want your data you have to go to the computer that has the stakka attached find the disk in the software, eject it from the stakka, and take it back to the computer you actually want to use it on!
Customer Rating: Summary: Frustrating Product Comment: l loved this product at first. In the end l had 5 of them, but they got less and less reliable. Now discs won't come out when you need them, and if l put the top stakka of 5 in place, it stops all the others from activating. l really would say think twice about buying this product, in fact l would say don't buy this product.
