HP Q6455A Color Laserjet 2600N User Reviews:
|
Customer Rating: Summary: Astonishingly Expensive To Run Comment: Lovely printer. Easy to set up and use. Nice Software. However the toner cartridges (Black, Yellow, Cyan, Magenta) are £50-60 EACH. Yes- thats a coupleof hundred quid to renew your toner. At 2500 pages per set of cartidges that's about 10p per page for toner alone, it's tempting to chuck the printer away and start again. Mine's been sitting on my desk with no black toner in it for months because I can't face paying that much to keep it going. I'm probably going to dump it and buy a different printer.
Customer Rating: Summary: A networked marvel - but now forced to replace Comment: I have had my 2600n for around 2 years and have been very pleased with the results. Sadly I've recently been confronted with ghosting problem which seems to be related to the 'lifetime' fuser. I'd say that 2 years and just 5000 prints is not exactly a lifetime.
I reckon I've averaged 7p a page - I produce lots of full-colour stuff -but this won't improve with time so I might as well replace the printer (yet another piece of technical kit which is not cost-effective for me to fix). I'll probably go for another 2600N (at 200 pounds) as it comes with full cartridges (so printer itself is basically free) and I can use cartridges I already have.
Note: There are a few comments relate to being forced to replace cartridges if one runs out (printer refuses to work). This is easily over-ruled using "Cartridge Out Override" option and you can get a lot more out of your cartridges (option is well hidden but described in manual).
Customer Rating: Summary: Upgrade to 3800 Comment: From a member who commented previously:
"A few weeks back I replaced the black cartridge (with a grumble), only to find that the cyan has now run out, but instead of letting me print in gray-scale the printer simply refuses to do anything until the cartridge is replaced."
That is because in order to print in black its hard wired for the machine to do underlying prints of each of the other colours, otherwise the black will only print out in a light grey.
As for this machine, you more than likely will end up getting an issue known as "ghosting".
You would be best just to skip this printer and purchase a 3800 or something alike to it as the 2600 will no doubt cause you so many issues.
Customer Rating: Summary: 5 Star Product For Networked Macs Comment: I have just bought my second HP2600n without any deliberation whatsoever.
The reason for this - it works, always a great start, it is ultra user friendly and it does everything you will ever need a small business/small office product to do without a lot of bells and whistles that you never use which just complicate your every day requirements.
At present we run six Intel Mac desktops and use the existing HP2600n for pretty much everything from artwork proofs to standard letters.
Its quick to print, the software runs seamlessly with OS X Tiger and the consumables are easy to come by and reasonably priced - a major factor in the initial change from the Xerox machine the HP replaced.
All in all a great machine for many uses. One piece of advice though, invest in the extra tray is you do any kind of letter headed correspondence. Believe me, it will make your life a lot easier and is [...] well spent.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good printer - watch the cost of toner Comment: This printer sits very comfortably on my home network. It was easy to connect and set up and print quality is good (not photo quality). It easily manages the light duty cycle I expose it to, and is a lot less trouble than the ink jet it replaced. Bear in mind that the toner is expensive. It requires 4 cartridges (black + 3 colour), if you buy new HP products, these cost around £50 each. You can almost buy a new printer for the cost of the cartridges.
