Summary: Unreliable, very expensive to run...
Comment: This is without doubt, the most infuriating and costly printer I have ever owned:
1. It will consistently fail to print. Even if it simply runs out of paper it will fail - very annoying when you are printing a long document and half way through you have to shut down your PC just to get it to resume (but it won't!). It seems to have a mind of it's own and I think sometimes it just can't be bothered.
2. Ink prices are around £11 - £13 per ink. This ink generally needs to be replaced monthly with pretty light use - we don't even print photos or any of the other ink gobbling tasks. I think HP quote 150 pages. 150 pages?!? Other printer manufacturers at least put 15ml in to give you a chance.
3. The HP software is always updating! And you can't disable this. The software is mediocre at best so why would it need to be downloading files to my PC?!? It never makes it any better.
4. Compatible ink cartidges virtually never work. The printer simply will not recognise them therefore forcing you to buy HP's own miniscule 5ml inks that, as I've already stated, last about as long as a lit match in a hurricane.
5. It's slow.
6. It's pointless.
7. Even if you got it free it would cost you at least £25 a month just for ink. If you want to print photos then you may as well double that figure. Or alternatively get them printed at a print shop and save yourself a fortune.
8. Simply - DO NOT BUY!

Summary: Totally unreliable
Comment: This printer is rubbish! Every other time I want to print and turn it on, it starts reinstalling the software, and regularly takes itself offline and refuses to print! Im a student and so bought this model as it was relatively cheap, but now I know why. My flatmate had the same one and hers did exactly the same. I don't think it is HP though, just the model, as my family printer at home has never given us trouble and it is an HP too.

Summary: HP vs a nightmare .which one do you prefer
Comment: This is not a printer but a nightmare. Simply it would not print. I have to literately switch of my laptop in order to start printing. It would not print just by switching on and of the printer itself , rather I have to switch of my laptop. All my mates have the same problem as me... so this is not one sporadic faulty printer, all the hp F380 are the same.
My advice ...if you don t want your life shortened don t buy it !

Summary: You'll never need more!
Comment:
We have owned this printer for over a year and so far are unable to fault it. Setup was simplicity itself, and the ability to make copies without switching the computer on has come in useful many times.

Scanned images are faithfully and quickly reproduced and photos print rapidly and are of an acceptably high standard.

Have not had to replace ink cartridges in more than a year of ownership, although admittedly we don't print on a daily or sometimes even weekly basis.

The only downside I can list is sometimes text is not 100% sharp when you look closely, although I think we are using Tesco Value paper, so maybe this is the cause.

Summary: Utterly useless
Comment: By far the worst printer and manufacturer in the world.

The Problem - If you remove the USB cable by accident (can happen with laptops) THE PRINTER IS UNREPAIRABLE!!

Attempted Solution - Firstly is switched off the printer and back on, no luck. Secondly I switched off the laptop AND the printer, still no luck. Then I deinstalled and reinstalled the printer software, yip no joy. As per manual I performed a 'reset' of printer, nope no luck.

HP's Response - I contacted HP on the number as advised on the website. I WAITED 3 HOURS to be connected!! Eventually it took another 45mins for some Einstein to conclude that the printer had suffered a software and hardware malfunction and needs replacing.

The best bit - After emailing my purchase receipt over 3 weeks ago i still have had absolutely no response from HP, thanks!

Future - Never EVER buy HP unless you enjoy smoking rolled up bank notes cos its just as productive. Hope my tale serves as a warning for all HP Deskjet owners!
