Samsung ML-2510 - Printer - B/W - laser - Legal, A4 - 1200 dpi x 600 dpi - up to 24 ppm - capacity: 250 sheets - parallel, USB User Reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Dont buy it ! Comment: I have always been a HP Printer fan and someone recommended this Samsung ML2510 so I took the plunge.
It has turned out to be the biggest item I.T. junk I have ever bought. It had to be replaced by Samsung after a few months as it would not print or feed the paper at all.
Then the toner ran out. So I ordered another toner cartridge(£60) and that has now run out after only 1200 pages printed.
This machine is so noisy it sounds like a jumbo jet landing in my office.
I'm off the shops one year later to buy a Hewlwtt Packard !
Buy at your own risk ! Customer Rating: Summary: Dont expect multiple copies quickly Comment: I need to print a small number of copies of the same document. When I tried to perform this task the printer printed one copy and then stopped for another warm up period before printing the second copy and so on. Six copies took about 3 minutes!! A doc of several pages was OK.
Samsung Support say this is not a fault and the printer is respooling.
Customer Rating: Summary: Exactly what I wanted Comment: I've had this printer now for about 2 months and have yet to have a problem. We are a multi-computer household and the photo-quality inkjet is too expensive to run on a daily basis so we bought this for normal use.
Apart from the power switch (its a physical switch with no auto-off function) it is perfect for our needs, Its quick, has exellent print quality and is reasonably quiet.
For the price, this is a perfect 'general use printer'.
(We use this via 4 different windows PCs without any driver problems). Customer Rating: Summary: A good affordable printer - if you are lucky Comment: When I started looking for an affordable mono laser printer for less than £100, I compared the specs and prices of various models. At the time I purchased this printer (summer 2006), it boasted superior specs than models of any other manufacturers, and at a lower price. So I just went for it.
It's very easy to install on both Mac OS X Tiger and Windows XP. (I use my Mac regularly.) The device driver for Mac is liminited compared to features available with the Windows driver (e.g. no toner-saving printing mode for Mac). This has not turned out to be a distadvantage for me since trying to print a document from my Windows machine in toner-saving mode *invariably* produced a pitch-black output and inevitable jamming. How ironic is that? Even turning off the toner-saving mode *very frequently* produced a very wasteful result with 60-80% ink coverage with jamming. Of course, my experience may be - and I hope so - one off. So if you are a Windows-only user, think twice or read another review before making up your mind. As a regular Mac user though, I have not had any problem whatsoever. (For your information I downloaded and installed the most recent device driver from Samsung's website).
Apart from this rather serious glitch with Windows, I have found the quality of print and speed to be more than adequate. It's not the quietest of printers but it's not the loudest either. I have printed documents with my baby sleeping in the next room without waking him up.
Another concern is the amount of smoke that comes out of the printer. I know laser printers produce a lot of heat but do they all emit a plume of smoke even with a single page output? If you have a couple of dozens of pages to print, you'll definitely feel it in the air.
So all in all, I have given 3 stars, but this is only because I have not experienced the problem described above with my Mac. On a positive side you can't deny the fact that it's affordable. But if I wasn't a Mac user, it would have been one star and I would definitely have sent the printer back.
