Dual Colour Gamut Processing Technology ensures faithful re-prints when making copies of your photos.

Direct camera, card and phone photo printing

Print photos directly from PictBridge compatible cameras, camcorders and memory cards without connecting to a PC. Or print photos direct from mobile phones via the IrDA interface or the optional Bluetooth® Unit.

High quality scanning

The built-in scanner has a 2400x4800dpi resolution for crisp, clear colour scans. A USB2.0 Hi-Speed interface speeds up image transfer to your PC.

Advanced media handling

Long-lasting prints

Canon's ChromaLife100** system delivers beautiful photographs with enhanced durability up to 100 years to preserve your memories. By using the FINE print head, genuine Canon inks and genuine Canon photo papers, the system provides you with long-lasting, beautiful photo prints.

Economical Single Ink system

All ink tanks can be replaced separately, minimising ink wastage. LEDs built into the ink tanks flash to give an immediate visual indication if a colour is running low or has run out.

Summary: Multi-Functionless Desk Ornament
Comment: Received my MP600R just over 2 weeks ago from Amazon & for 2 weeks it has worked great. Wirelessly connected to my PC with no problems & I've printed a few CD labels, a photo and scanned a couple of pictures. Three days ago I turned on the printer and got a message saying that the Print Head was not the correct one to install and I should install the correct print head. You can't do anything else while this mesage is on screen. The print head is the original Canon one that arrived with the printer. The printer is now useless and I can't even print a return label from amazon!

Canon's website advises that you remove and re-sit the print head but after 20 or 30 fruitless re-sittings, I've stopped wasting my time. Canon's other advise is to buy a new print head. They're expensive & a printer should last more than 2 weeks.

If you are thinking of buying this printer then stay clear and go for something else. I gambled & lost.

Summary: Network connection takes forever to figure out, but works well thereafter
Comment: Connecting the printer directly to a single machine is easy; albeit a long process that leaves your machine overburdened with applications and icons (as do printers from most manufacturers these days!).

However, if you try to connect it directly AND to a wireless network (direct wired USB connection for a desktop plus wireless for your laptop via a wireless hub) then you can expect hours of frustration.
So, BEWARE, if you are connecting this to anything other than the most trivial of networks, as it is a non-trivial process. For us the technique seemed to be to ignore that you are connecting to the network and install it as a USB connected device (for which you'll need to bring your machine to the device and connect it with a USB lead). Then after installation re-run the installation (but uncheck all the apps) but this time go for network - leave the usb lead connected during this process.

In operation the printer is quiet (and there is even a quieter night mode!?!), duplex operation works very effectively, print quality is great (better than our former HP despite its plethora of ink cartridges - excellent colour matching, you can print photos with no worry of strange colour casts appearing), and astonishingly (given their claimed figures, but again this seems to be true of all modern ink jet printers) SLOW. Turn the printer on, wait whilst it makes a load of noises inside, print a document, wait while it makes a load of noises inside, wait for each page to dry, wait while it makes a load of noise half way through the document - I'm sure inkjets are getting slower these days, not faster!

Summary: Installation.....Easy Peasy
Comment: This is essentially a 5* review of the installation only. I will post another review in a few weeks once I have had chance to play with the printer a bit more.

My new MP600R arrived today. I have spent the previous 2 weeks doing my homework about which printer to get. The main criteria was individual inks but was I really going to need. I decided that I'd take the plunge and spend the extra on wireless. In the end the choice came down to this one or the HP PSC C7280 for the cost/performance trade-off. I decided on the Canon as the resolution was so much better and remarks about the Canon user interface seemed very positive.

It was with some trepidation that I embarked on the network setup as some people seem to have had difficulty. I am not an IT expert although I do know my way around computers more than the average layperson. I started by carefully reading the Setup Guide book as recommended by another reviewer - good advice. In the space of 2 hours I have set up one desktop and 3 laptops installing the software application on all machines without any hassle. It seems the main tip is in order to set up the wired or wireless LAN you need to make sure that the PC can "see" the printer. This is done by making sure the USB is connected the first time you're trying to set the printer into the network (repeat for wired and wireless which may be from the same PC even though ultimately the PC you're using to set up the printer will only be used in one of the modes). Once this has been done by one of the PC's all of the others can "see" the printer without [necessarily] having to also connect the USB. To make sure that there was no chance of difficulties I made sure I also used the USB connection to each PC I was installing the SW onto (just in case). At one point I did also turn off the firewall on the PC to make sure that there was no chance that the printer couldn't be seen on the network.

I now have a desktop connect via USB, a laptop connected via 10/100 Ethernet wired network and 2 laptops connected via wireless (with SSID and 128bit WEP encryption). All this with no hiccups.

Out of the box other peoples' niggles about a French plug were unfounded. There was a UK and a continental plug lead. The little lights on the ink-cartridges - nice :-) is it a gimmic or is it useful? Not sure but at least it looks pretty!

After the first couple of test prints I have to say I love what I have seen so far. The paper cassette tray keeps everything neat but the auto doc feeder means that double sided photocopying is do-able (unless you're trying to do masses). I love the built in duplex unit for normal printing and I've set it up as a default option so the kids dont waste so much paper any more.

I'll let you know the results of photo printing at a later date.

So far so .... brilliant.

Summary: The best printer I have ever used
Comment: Just noticed some bad reviews so thought I'd say something from my experience. I purchased and have been using the printer since April 2007.
Got it from Pixmania with french plug and Uk adaptor. Used it with three computers using Windows XP and last month changed one computer over to Vista. Networked through Sky Broadband Router. No problems! Setting up the printer is a doddle. Setting up scanner requires a little patience. Cannon support is non-existent but if you approach the task without many pre-conceptions and calmly read the scant information, it does seem to work out fine. Love it to bits!

Summary: NICE FEATURES - if only they'd work properly ...
Comment: as with other negative reviews below ... nice printer if it works fine, if it doesn't good luck.

have it hooked up to our router & works fine wirelesly for everything but scanning and uploading the scanned image ... can't figure out what the problem is, have downloaded & reloaded drivers & software several times ...

worst part of it is the non-existant customer "support" ... gave up after weeks of trying ...

would love to give it a great review as hate to think I purchased rubbish, but it is what it is - ....
