Summary: superb A4 printer
Comment: Can't fault the print quality when printing photos. Set mine up by downloading driver directly from the website. This gives all the latest updates.(though it is slow). No problems with vista this way. Love the fact i can leave 6x4 photo paper in a separate tray and have A4 non photo in at the same time. Printing direct from the memory card is also very good and saves a lot of time.( Helps if your camera does good j-pegs like my fuji S6500).Yes, A3 would be nice, but would be 4x the price of this.Great value for such good quality. Hp inks are too expensive, though the compatibles i,ve used are great.

Summary: Great cost effective home photo printer
Comment: printer arrived from amazon quickly and was dead easy to setup.
Had my sony cameras printing via pict bridge in minutes.
For the price I am really impressed with the output quality, however the colour matching seemed a little bit dark but i am sure with some adjustment this will be fine.

Summary: A little beauty!
Comment: This machine replaced an ageing HP Photosmart 1215 and what a difference! The setup was very easy. I had a Vista disk in with the machine but I still had to go online to download the Vista update. However, no problems here and machine was soon up and running. The only glitch I have is at start up when a dialog box informs me that the HP CUE Status isn't running and is unable to load. Whatever it is, this doesn't seem to affect the overall running of the printer. I like the fact that HP printers store the paper horizontally so you don't get that annoying curling of the paper as you do with certain other makes! No problems using touch screen for controlling the machine. Printer is highly recommended for the price.

Summary: great prints - not great feed.
Comment: This printer can produce excellent colour prints - with a bit of judicious setting-up, but, and it's a big but - if you want your A4 240g/m2 paper to emerge every time I would forget it. Photo paper feed, especially erring on the heavy side (240 incidentally should be well within this printers' capabilities) is - well let's just say the chances are slim that you'll ever see your print. Now the inherent snag with this type of paper feed is that you can't tell if the paper is jamming until waiting for a couple of minutes (or for hell to freeze over) to find that your paper is still wound around the back rollers (after removing the backplate) or not gone in at all. These are not great traits for a fairly expensive printer. Not to mention the massive loss of ink printing all over the rollers!! Ordinary A4? No problem at all. It's a shame because on the rare occasions the paper does emerge the results are very good. Sorry but it's a daft printer with great potential if only HP could sort out basic problems - i.e. getting the feed to work properly with heavy-ish photo paper. And yes - you should be able to use other makes other than HP papers - obviously. Maybe not so smart!! One to avoid

Summary: everyman's photo printer
Comment: I've had this about 4 motnhs now, and just burned through the original inks; so it seemed time to write a review. Firstly, I have my monitor colour profiled, use Adobe RGB colour Gamut, Use HP's own colour control (rather than Photoshop's: i did try this but it wasn't so accurate)and have used HP papers (premium photo plus: expensive but IMHO worthwhile) I've been making prints of A4 size or thereabouts.

With the setup as above, colour rendition is excellent, almost a perfect match for my profiled screen, this makes print making simple with no trial-and-error, and no wasted innks or papers. quality is excellent, at A4 size any of my prints would look fine in a frame or an album. The only negative point regarding quality is that the blacks still print a little thicker than other colours, so there is a texture to the surface of prints, which shows as a higlight when the light is oblique. If your prints are behind glass, this won't show.

I have tried making 10x15 prints (good) and using the CD labels supplied, (they are OK, but not the mainstay of why I use this, so not really part of my comments.) non-photo printing is noisy but very fast. the blacks tend to be a little more blueish than from my other HP printer when printing on cheap papers, not a problem, and only just noticeable.

Ink use is fine. replacement inks are about 5-10 pounds each, and there's 6 cartridgess in total. That means about 30 quid all-in, from the high street. I've made 50 A-4 high colour photo prints and replaced two of the supplied (half-size) cartridges, the other inks are all still fairly full. that means you should get one A4 print for about 10pence worth of ink and 50-75 pence of paper. that's a lot cheaper than decent online prints, even factoring the cost of the printer.

The OSD and direct printing options are a little gimmicky, and prbably add to the price unnecesaarily for most people with a PC. However, the screen works very well, and is easier than using Windows printer management. some of the error commands relating to ink replacement etc are somewhat obscure, but the interface is friendly enough to follow through without problems.

I would give 5-stars, certainly for value, but for the fact that this is only an A4 printer, and I think that anyone wanting this kind of performance would probably want to be able to go that little bit bigger.
