Camera Armor For Canon EOS 5D User Reviews:
|
Customer Rating: Summary: The body equivalent of a UV filter Comment: I bought this when I got my Canon EOS 5D, and ever since I put it on, I've not removed it.
It's pretty simple really - a rubber case that fits over your camera like a second skin (similar to the sort you get to protect MP3 players). The case is designed to the shape of your camera and it's features, so you can still press the buttons through the armor. It also has bits that aren't covered, so you can access the dials, the navigation button, the plug points on the camera, the hotshoe easily. It also comes with a clear plastic protector for your screen. You need to remove the lens and your camera strap to put this on, but once you've put it on, you can then leave it on indefinitely.
The rubber actually gives more grip to the camera, and it fits perfectly - there are no air bubbles, and it doesn't slip or slide over the controls, nor does it interfere with access to the cable points or changing the lens. You do have to lift it a little though if you've got a bracket for a flash gun, but it's fairly easy.
The material isn't particularly pretty admittedly - it's thick opaque silicone. As a result, you can't tell the make of the camera, which might be off-putting if you like showing off brand names. But this is a piece of design which is about practicality rather than prettiness - and it offers a little more water resistance if you're shooting when its raining. I've read similar reviews on this product on other cameras where people complained about it attracting dust. This is certainly not something I've experienced myself, particularly as rubber doesn't produce any static - therefore it can't physically attract dust or lint.
This is as valuable to protecting cameras as a UV filter is to a lens. With my previous camera (also a Canon) I noticed that as it got older, some of the buttons began to get a bit sticky, there was fading, show of wear and tear, and faint scratches. By using this body armor, I hope it will help reduce signs of aging on my camera, meaning I won't have problems with buttons sticking and it will ensure I can charge the best value should I choose to sell it in years to come.
It might not improve your photos, but it's a valuable piece of equipment insurance which I'd recommend to anyone who wants to look after their camera.
