HP Officejet Pro K5400 User Reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Terrible printer Comment: I have been buying HP brand printers for 12 years. Until this machine, I have never been unhappy with HP: if this had been my first experience of one of their printers, I would never have bought another. Although I am a business user, the use to which the printer is put is on the light side - nothing like the duty cycles for which HP rates this machine. The printer is highly prone to 'chewing' paper, so I spend a lot of time trying to unjam pages from inside the machine. The paper jams have on more than one occasion wrapped around the print carriage and have caused damage to the print heads: I have had to replace these several times in a period of just 3 months. At £30 odd each for replacement print heads, this is a fairly expensive problem. The additional paper feed tray is simply a waste of money - on the rare occasions when the printer has been able to find paper in this tray, it has almost immediately resulted in a misfeed... and me having to open the printer up to unjam paper again. I haven't experienced the duplex feed problems noted by reviewers of the k5400d, but have discovered that duplex printing seems to alter the printable area of the page, so that documents that print happily in single-sided versions have sections missed from the top when duplex printing. This is also a very noisy printer, which not only shrieks and shakes when in use, but is also prone to weird and random outbursts of whirs, clicks and grinding when it is supposed to be idle. Horrible.
