Official Review:

The TomTom ONE XL has everything you need to make your trip safer, more relaxed and more fun. At its heart lies TomToms award-winning plug-and-go navigation software, but the new 4.3 inch wide high-quality touchscreen makes navigating even easier. Your ONE XL has a pre-installed database of safety camera locations in the UK. This database is fully integrated in your ONE XL navigation software and alerts to warn you when there is a fixed safety camera on your route. Theres a large choice of route option...

Summary: How did I manage without Tom
Comment: We borrowed one first and thought it was that good had to come home and order one straight away. Easy to use and does the job no more maps, particularly good in city centres where maps don't always help on one way systems etc. Would recommend. If you buy make sure you regularly download software up dates

Summary: Does good job
Comment: So far it's been an easy to use, quick and helpful tool. It re-calculates routes quickly so you don't need to pull over while your satnav thinks whether you should turn right or left... Had no problems with the screen mount or loading updates from PC. Maps are a bit out of date: it once told us we're driving in the middle of the field (no, it was a new motorway!) and once kept directing us down a pedestrian area... The car charger cable could be longer. Haven't tried it on the continent yet.

Summary: Surprisingly Good!
Comment: Well I umm-ed and ahh-ed about which satnav to buy for ages. If you believe all the reviews you read then they're all as bad as each other so in the end, as my mother had this one and it seemed very efficient, I opted for the XL (I only got Europe as it was a free upgrade at the time). I have to say, I'm really very pleased. I have had no issues (so far) with updates, finding my location, or anything. Ok, so the battery time is a bit rubbish, but it does come with an in-car charger so no real problems there. The window attachment has been no problem for me; it fell off once but that was my own fault for not wetting it enough. There are a few map faults, but nothing major and certainly nothing that wasn't pretty obvious and easy to correct. Now I'm not a really frequent driver and I don't use it all the time, but you know what? it makes driving a more enjoyable affair for me. I feel less stressed, safer and I can see where I'm going. It might not be perfect, but I love it.

Summary: Great product, let down by peripherals
Comment: Had this for a week now, and so far works fine - as other reviewers have said, easy to use, re-calculates routes quickly & provides all the on-screen info you need. Unlike some other reviewers I haven't had any problems with the screen mount falling off, however the overall product is let down by other shortcomings:
- No carry case, which TomTom would like you to pay the better part of £20 for. Better off with the leather case from Discount Satellite Navigation (on Amazon) which is £5.99 and does the job well.
- The in-car charger is woefully short. My car has a cigarette lighter in the centre console & one at the bottom of the dashboard, but neither option allows me to put the unit on the bottom-right hand corner of the windscreen (ie not blocking the bottom centre of the windscreen) without trailing the cable over the steering wheel. An extra couple of foot would allow the cable to be routed out of the way under the footmat.
- Could just be me, but the TomTom Home software & manuals aren't great. Keeps saying it can't recognise the device & has locked up the unit, necessitating a full re-set.

All-in-all, does it's main job well, but let down by skimping on the small things

Summary: Gets you there, when its working.
Comment: Its accurate and fast to re-route, so it won't leave you in a lather calling out directions too late.

This is a "cheap" all europe nav, so this may be unreasonable to expect, but what I find dissappointing is the TOM TOM Home software. This lets you link to a PC to preset routes etc. But it is no more flexible than programming direct - Its not easy to force a specific route you want it to take you - it insists it knows best. That is a missed opportunity.

But after 6 weeks its broken - won't turn on. Now I have just read about the reset problem which looks like it might have fixed it - that's just not good enough I am afraid, hence 2 stars. Flaky firmware is not acceptable.
