Customer Rating: Summary: HPPhotosmart C4380 Comment: Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found this product very simple to install. My only gripe is the time it takes to load all the software. I installed this machine on my main PC via the ethernet and on my laptop via the wireless network,the combined tasks taking just under an hour! Ignore all the installation problems mentioned in other reviews - if you follow the instructions you should have no problems! It is early days yet, but print quality appears to be fine. I have yet to discover printing costs. I pondered and pondered before deciding to order this item, but the existing positive reviews, confidence in my own computer-literacy and my current financial situation (on the verge of being skint!!) finally helped me to click the button and proceed to the checkout - I ordered and paid for my Photosmart C4380 and couldn't wait to get it.
I can't say that I was surprised by the speedy delivery - 2 working days is all it took. However, that is nothing unusual - as a regular Amazon customer I have never been less than impressed by their efficiency!! I had a day off and was quite excited when the postman rang the doorbell. I was still excited as I disconnected my old Epson Stylus and dusted my desk in order to accomodate this neat looking, wifi enabled little machine.
I was prepared for a lengthy installation - see previous reviews - but I was also prepared to read every word of the manual, follow all the neccessary steps - I even printed out one of the reviews - just in case.
Well, after close to 5 hours my eyes are sore, my old RSI problem is about to flare up, I've visited the HP support centre, downloaded updates ... and decided to stick to USB connection until I desperately need to print wirelessly.
What a bunch of convaluted and ultimately inefficient and infuriating, dead-end procedures to attach what is meant to be a 21st century printer to a pathetically small, 1 laptop-network!!! Grrr...
So, after the whole morning getting stressed out, I am now unable to relax by sitting downstairs and watching both the birds and the telly while printing out .... whatever .... anything .... I just wanted to be able to print wirelessly - whether I needed to or not!!! So there!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great hardware, poor software. Comment: The printer is great, good hardware. Does what it says. The software is massive and horrible. I prefer to use other apps for images, such as photoshop yet there appears to be no option to install just the drivers without all the bloated huge software....... unless you go to the website where you can find and download the "basic driver package" which I recommend.
Wireless works well, although in this area I cheat a little and entered a fixed ip address, you can access the printer over your wireless network by entering the ip address into a browser.
I also found it was a smoother process using a vista o/s rather than xp (which was a real pita).
All in all I'm pleased with the product and look forward to it lasting well (hp should) after getting fed up with those throw away printers (epson "I'm gonna block up all the nozzels") that some other manufacturers release.
