Samsung CLP-310N Colour Laser Printer With Ethernet Connectivity User Reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Great printer, but too much goes to landfill! Comment: I've had this printer for couple of months now. It's been totally reliable, and I'm very satisfied with the quality of the printout, both black and white and colour. It's reasonably light if I have to move it, and its footprint is satisfactorily small. Compared to my previous printer (HP Inkjet 2300) it's quiet; printing is faster, except for the initial sheet which
seems slow to me.
The direct network connection to the router made it very useful in our home, which has 2 computers. However I had some trouble configuring the router so that, if it was powered off, it didn't assign the printer a different address. If that happens the printer driver can't find the printer.
Unfortunately the cartridges are a serious issue. They don't last long (I suspect their lifetime is somewhat shorter than Samsung claims). The amount of ink is nothing compared to the weight of plastic. So re-use or recycle.
Samsung make it impossible to refill the cartridges.
Recycling is difficult. First you have to logon to a special website and remembering yet another password. Then you have to select your cartridge from a list - just reference numbers without any description. Then you wait for Samsung to send you an e-mail. Then, using the ink you've just purchased, you can finally printout a freepost label. But if you are returning several different cartridges, there is no way to know which label links to which cartridge! Why don't they include a freepost label in the box with the cartridge?
That's why I can't recommend this printer very highly. Most users won't have the patience to recycle, so it will do too much harm to the environment. Customer Rating: Summary: Happy laser printer owner :-) Comment: I needed a new printer and was fed up with our ink jet drying up and the rubbish print quality despite doing a head cleaning before each printing. So I looked into laser printers, ideally colour ones- and cheap. The Samsung CLP-310N had good reviews so I decided to get one. It's my first laser printer and I can't compare it to other laser printers but the print quality is excellent, I decided to try and print a photo on normal paper and it looked amazing! It prints so quick, too, and I find it quiet. Very happy with my purchase! Customer Rating: Summary: OK for cheap printing, not for marketing material Comment: I hoped that this would replace my expensive-to-print-on Canon inkjet but it does not handle graphics files well enough. Although text is sharp with reasonable ink coverage, JPGs and PDFs have noticeable scattering, muddied colours and fuzz. Not a problem for casual printing, but for marketing materials (flyers, bookmarks) you're better of getting the job done by a professional printer. I certainly wouldn't print photos on it, so will retain the Canon Pixma for high-quality graphic printing. As an invoice-printer, it's simple and does the job well, although it does curl the pages up due to the heat, and they don't flatten on the small output tray, which therefore fills up rather quickly.
The paper input tray is irritating, if you're loading different paper/labels, as you can't access the tray or feed paper into it easily without pulling the whole tray out from the bottom of the printer, which demands extra space in front of the tray which you might not have. Customer Rating: Summary: Works with a Mac - farewell dried up inkjets Comment: Having received good reports on Samsung lasers, I bought this one as the cheapest colour laser with a network card I could find.
it works well on a LAN and my Mac running 10.6 found it easily on 'bonjour'. Although I did have to update the drivers for 10.6 - but they were there on the Samsung website just after 10.6 came out (unlike some competitors)
Print quality appears good and it is noticeably quieter than other laser printers I have had. Consumables appear to be not overpriced,
On the downside it is not that fast, the paper tray is quite small and not intuitive to fit correctly.
So I have got exactly what I wanted at a very good price.
If you are sick and tired of dried up inkjets this machine is worthy of serious consideration. Customer Rating: Summary: Good value, small colour printer Comment: Easy to install, works all over the building. Excellent quality generally, photographs extremely good. Good value for small office. Would recommend,
