Summary: Canon PIXMA MP640 All In One Photo Printer
Comment: Not had this printer long but was extremely impressed by the way the goods were packaged. The set up intructions are clear and precise and although I had prepared myself to do battle with setting up the wireless connection, it actually took longer to put in the ink cartridges than to set up the connection - easy!!

It also picks up the connection from a fair distance from the router and it is unbelievably quick on black and white printing. The LCD screen and menus are also easy to use. The only down side I have noted is that the rear paper holder is a little flimsy but other than that the build quality is very good.

Not sure how long the ink cartridges will last, they are quite small but of course that depends on how much colour printing is used, I doubt it will be an economical solution for heavy photo/colour use. Not tried the copier/scanner yet so may have to update this review!

Comment: Good printing.
Connected via ethernet and it appears to be very reliable connection.

I am impressed by the scan function as it is clearer than my old dedicated epson u1200 scanner!! technology marches on!!

I will try some non canon black cartridges soon, to see how well they compare.

Summary: great printer
Comment: Hi

Printer arrived and was a joy to setup, my router had compatible so wireless setup easily. No problems with it since I got it. I found having the instructions for cartridge installation on the LCD was very helpful when you were working at the printer as I could not always have the manual handy

Comment: Bought this to replace my epson 710w which due to constant ink head/nozzel cleaning finally stopped working after just 1 year. was not sure about a canon printer but it did all i wanted and more so i bought it. Perfect after one month of use i can't fault it. will never go back to an epson printer. Nice on Canon keep it up.

Comment: Agree with all the previous reviewers; great printer.

A little large, but that's due to the A4 flatbed scanner and the paper handling format of two input trays and double-sided printing.

No one has mentioned the included software utilities- The scan to OCR is quite superb, only a little problem with 'Times New Roman' in that 'cl' gets seen as 'd', but thats a common problem with other scanners.

Someone mentioned the need to keep the printer turned on at all times to effectively use it Wirelessly; of course you need to, but it costs virtually nothing in electricity.

After around 5-minutes the Printer automatically goes into Standby Mode, reducing the power consumption to less than 1-Watt (that's so low, it's negligable). The LCD also switches off once this happens.

When you do a Print from a Wireless PC, it starts up and prints, returning to Standby again afterwards. Keep it switched on permanently if you need Wireless printing. Simples!

I had no problem setting up the Wireless. The SSID was immediately recognised by the Printer and the WPA was easily entered, albeit with a lot of mobile phone like alphabet key presses.

One other comment. You have to buy a USB A to B cable (unless you have one) if you want to connect to a non-wireless PC. Bit mean of Canon, eh?

Still rated 5*
